Not everyone was sold on the chukka being the best shoe for date night. So, if you’re looking for another dressier — and preppier — alternative to your sneakers and don’t prefer the looks of the chukka, consider a pair of boat shoes. And no, you won’t look like a silly sailer if you wear boat shoes.
Boat shoes are a sportier version of the loafer (which we won’t be recommending for the freshly returned missionary). A typical boat shoe has two eyelets on each side of the shoe and a rubber grippy sole. The upper can be made of leather, canvas, or other synthetic materials.
The boat shoe is for warmer weather. Not because snow and ice make them look bad, but because they can’t be worn with socks. Well, technically they can be worn with socks, but if you do, you will be in violation of at least a dozen treaties and you may cause a fashion guru’s head to explode.
The featured shoes are from Sperry Top-Sider — the company that essentially owns the boat shoe market.

I have always love the top sider, I never knew that it was called the boat shoe. Well it made sense now. It really looks preppy and fasionable so I might try one soon.
